    What is MMA?

MMA are the initials of mixed-martial arts, an idea which began in 1993 with the first event of its type in the United States, in a league called UFC, where martial artists the world over from different disciplines (Karate, Boxing, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, etc.) and competed in matches with nearly no rules to decide which martial art discipline is the most effective. The ripples and the exposure the tournament has created have led many martial artists from various disciplines to go out and train in different disciplines than the ones they were using, given the new “no holds barred” ruleset. For example, a boxer who until recently would only fight in a boxing ring, where only standing punches were allowed, turned to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to familiarize themselves with a whole new world of throws and ground work – and so the martial arts combined to create the modern MMA – Mixed Martial Arts.

    BJJ – Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, originally Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

In 1915 Mitsuyo Maeda, a senior Jiu-Jitsu practitioner and Judoka, who is considered one of the top five students of Judo founder Jigoro Kano, came to Brazil.
Maeda taught two brothers his martial arts: Carlos and Helio Gracie, and since Helio was a weak and sickly child, he had to make adjustments and modify techniques so that Helio can perform them. The method he developed is called Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu allows a small and weak person to overcome a larger and stronger person using throws, bars and chokes. The discipline has proved its effectiveness in many fights presented to the world in freefighting rings, such as: Pride, UFC and others.

    Self Defense

Self defense is the use of force by a person for the express purpose of protecting their life, liberty, body or property. In the moment a person feels there exists a momentary danger to their life. So why do we learn self defense? To remember to respond correctly instead of freezing in a true threat situation. For that purpose, one should practice and persevere to reach a state where their instinctive response is the correct response that allows them to get out of the situation we stumbled onto. Self defense training is suitable for anyone of any age, and does not require any prior experience.

Children’s Group – Self defense and martial arts for enhanced development:

Through fighting games, the children have fun, exercise, build confidence, enhance physical characteristics like agility/speed/coordination/posture, release a lot of energy, and learn to defend themselves in the best way possible.

Who is it for? Parents who want to strengthen their child and impart to them a healthy way of life, parents with a child who has low self-esteem, parents to children with myopathy\hyperactivity, or problems with posture and coordination.

Teenage groups – MMA, Martial Arts and Self Defense to improve confidence and fitness:

Through self-defense techniques and fighting games, the teenagers exercise, get stronger, build their confidence, enhance physical characteristics like agility/speed/coordination/posture and learn to defend themselves.

Who is it for? Any teenager who wants to get stronger, improve their self esteem and engage in healthy exercise activities, and especially for a teenager being picked on and harassed by their peers in the neighborhood or school and would like to make it stop once and for all and be better equipped to defend themselves in the best possible way.

Women’s Groups – Self Defense and Martial Arts for Excellent Self Protection:

Through real techniques and situations from the street, the women of the academy learn to stop sexual harassment as soon as it gets started, and how to protect themselves in situations of assault, either with a fist or a weapon: stick, knife, or gun, and escape the situation. The women practice how to prevent the situation before it has a chance to begin, and if it has already begun, how to end it as swiftly and efficiently as possible, while maintaining safe distance, using correct technique and numerous organs (and not strength!) to submit the assailant with bars and chokes. This is a very effective form of self-defense. Likewise, the training involves physical conditioning for women interested in fitness and strength training.

Who is it for? Any woman looking for self-empowerment and to strengthen her self esteem, any woman who has suffered or is presently suffering sexual harassment or assault in her life, anyone looking for a place to exercise, or to get strong and fit.

Mens Groups – Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense to strengthen yourself:

Through real techniques and situations from the street, the men of the academy learn to defend themselves from standing and grounded strikes, and how to protect themselves against a weapon: stick, knife, or gun while safely closing distance, and use throws and submit the assailant using bars and chokes. This is extremely effective self-defense in a quality environment with other men, likewise the training incorporates high-level physical fitness for men interested in fitness and becoming stronger.

Who is it for? Men looking to learn self defense in the best possible way, men looking to train in a safe and warm family environment, looking to exercise to become stronger and fitter.

How did I get to this field of work?

I began my way in martial arts at the age of 4, when I took up karate. After 14 years of training where I have advanced, competed and won many tournaments, after getting discharged from the army I ended up looking for a martial art which is more fitting for self ddefense in the street and isn’t based on physical prowess, which can be done until old age. While I was studying in Karmiel, I had the pleasure of training under my mentor and trainer David Binyamin, the pioneer of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and its head in Israel, whom I credit for exposing me to, and letting me fall in love with, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Two years ago we opened up an academy in Jerusalem as a delegation of Gracie (who is a part of the Gracie dynasty and a world champion in MMA freefighting) Jiu-Jitsu.

What do I like most about my job?

Children, teenagers, women and men come here to train and free themselves of the race called life, it is my pleasure to provide them with this release while providing them with real tools which will help them solve problem outside of the mat in life in general, when the practice is over I enjoy seeing everyone leave and with smiles on their faces and feel the familial warmth between everyone.

What characterizes your business and makes it unique?

My business is part of the leisure culture, but as soon as it starts being a part of your life it becomes a central part of your lifestyle, we have a lot of conversations about the practice sessions and techniques, friendships are formed and group events are arranged, people start to eat and think healthier and that is something really unique I believe.
